Wellington kids benefit from Fusion charity drive
Friday, 16 December 2011 07:18

The Fusion Outsourcing Services charity drive hand-over to Helping Hands took place at Wellington on Wednesday 7 December.

Pricilla Simons, who has been running Helping hands in the Carterville township of Wellington since 2000, was thrilled to receive a cheque of R5000 and a multitude of toys on behalf of the 40 children who call the three-roomed facility ‘home’.

These children have been affected by HIV or foetal alcohol syndrome and have found in the Helping Hands charity a support structure to equip them with the necessary life skills to eventually take responsibility for their own well-being. An HIV-positive person herself, Priscilla understands the importance of care and safety and – through charity drives - supports the children by ensuring that they have a safe home, food and clothing.

The money donated by Fusion will provide the children with food and basic necessities over the next 5 weeks – including the Festive season - whilst the more than 200 toys donated will bring joy to many a child’s heart in the Wellington community.

Fusion Outsourcing Services is a Cape Town based call centre outsourcer delivering innovative, cost-efficient BPO solutions. In just under a decade, the company has built a reputation as an industry leader, offering a comprehensive range of solutions that deliver over 50 processes to the Banking, Insurance, Telecommunications, FMCG, Media and Leisure industries.

Money raised for the iKhaya le Themba charity at the recent Fusion Market Day, as well as toys, clothing and stationery donated by Fusion staff will be handed over to the charity next week.

IKhaya le Themba, meaning ‘Home of Hope’ provides an infrastructure that empowers local communities to care for the terminally ill and their families.  From its tiny 3 sqm Wendy house base in Khayelitsha, the centre provides education and skills to affected children and adults in the community.

The centre also provides training on home-based care, HIV awareness, and dealing with orphans and vulnerable children. Since its establishment in 2003, iKhaya le Themba has grown and has mentored organisations in Atlantis, Gugulethu, the Eastern Cape and Namibia.

The Market Day, held at Fusion House, raised R1150 for the charity.
